Six Tiny Kittens Were Not Garbage
On the way to the river to take her dogs for a swim, an Animal Advocates' volunteer noticed a plastic bag littering the side of the road. She made a note of it, intending to pick it up on her way back to put in the garbage.
Freezing Wet Kittens Dumped Beside A Highway
Someone dumped a wire crate at the side of a highway with three crying, scared, soaking wet six-week old kittens in it. It was 10 below in a fierce rain storm the night an Animal Advocates' volunteer saw little eyes glowing in her headlights. She swerved onto the gravel shoulder of the road, jumped out of her car, and ran back to the crate.

Scooter - Our Christmas Miracle Cat
The cat who didn’t come back. Scooter’s mother and siblings were barely surviving in the shell of an abandoned truck out in the country. We successfully tender-trapped them all and brought them to AAS’s beautiful, sunny shelter, which had six rooms, all with wide windows.
Rescuing multiple litters of kittens
It still happens too often that multiple litters of kittens need help. Often the kittens, whose mother may have been killed by a predator or hit by a car, are close to death because of dehydration.
Rescuing cats from breeders
Animal Advocates is known for its fearless rescue of dogs on chains, dogs in garages, dogs in pens, dogs in sheds, and dogs in puppy mills. We are less well-known for our rescue of cats kept in cruel, inhumane breeding conditions in sheds and basements, but we also fearlessly rescued those cats too.

In Prince George BC there is a trailer park that is home to many feral cats and kittens. All the cats need to be spayed and neutered, vaccinated, and treated for infections and parasites. With no immunities, the kittens are especially sick and often die.
Ellie's rescue and lifelong care - 76 maggots can't keep Ellie down
"I received a call this morning to pick up a sick kitten someone found. Her anus and vagina were full of maggots and she is quite dehydrated. I've bathed the area, given her an enema and I'm trying to hydrate her by injecting saline under her skin. I can't find a vet open or willing to take her today..."
Lytton Cat Colony Rescue
We were notified of a cat colony in BC's interior that had started multiplying when an elderly woman passed away, leaving an unaltered male and female to live on her property. Local people were dumping bags of cat food, and consequently, with food and shelter, the cats soon began to reproduce. We estimate there are about 40 to 50 cats in the colony.

Charlotte's last days were so happy
On the side of a busy road Charlotte crouched, about to dart to the other side. Maybe she thought there was food on the other side of the road. She was starving; so thin that there was little of her left.
Charlotte's luck was about to turn. A kind — and proactive person — who noticed Charlotte and quickly pulled over, gently scooped Charlotte up in her arms. AAS was asked to help with Charlotte's vet bills. We said Yes, of course — that is what we do.
Blood work showed what we suspected: that Charlotte was in renal failure. But her life was not over, not yet...
Shoe-Box Cat
From our rescue colleague in the interior of BC:
"Yesterday I returned from an appointment to find a large empty shoe box on my porch. When I looked around I found a young cat – maybe only 10 months old, with a very badly infected leg/foot..."
Maynard
Over a long cold Winter, the old orange cat huddled under one porch after another in a neighbourhood in a Northern BC town. A known cat-rescuer was told about the old cat by several concerned people. But each time she was told where he was, he had crept away, still searching for food and warmth and help. His coat was matted right down to his skin so that it held his back legs together. He crept because stretching his skin to walk was terribly painful.

Merritt Facebook Kittens Rescued
A Facebook user posted that she had five orphaned kittens that she needed someone to take. Another user arranged to take them but after one night, she realized that her life was too busy to take on bottle feeding five newborn kittens. In turn, she posted a Facebook message, that a former student of mine. Sheresa, read. Sheresa gave her my name and at 9:30 on a Wednesday night, we were off to Merritt to rescue the kittens.

Cat Rescue in Cowichan
By Char Olson
Somehow I found myself at the end of October helping with the feral cats at our local Courtenay Airpark - cats and kittens that have been born there and sadly dumped there to fend for themselves. Well, it's something that was new to me, so I set out to task with the help of Terry and her friends. We needed food for feeding stations, adoptive homes, and especially vet care.
Cat Rescue in Kamloops
Hi AAS, I hate asking for help, especially to another group who works so hard! You have helped us out in the past tremendously, and we are in another situation. We (myself, and a couple of volunteers) have started a Spay/Neuter/Release mission in the Pritchard area of Kamloops.

The owners of the house phoned the emergency hotline of a large animal protection agency to appraise them of the situation. They asked for immediate assistance because they wanted to rent the house out to new tenants. After a couple of weeks, a call was returned and the owners were assured help would be on the way shortly."
Kitten Rescue on Chilliwack Reserves
"I got a call from a woman on a reserve who had discovered 3 kittens who were living with their feral mom under a trailer. The people who occupied the trailer were moving out and they were having a very loud going away party. They had told this woman that they were going leave the cats there when they left."

Hi AAS, I'm wondering if you can help me out with some information. I am living in Mission B.C. and have been feeding two stray cats for approximately one month. I noticed the first cat almost a year ago walking around the neighbourhood and looking very skinny.
Maggie: Third Time Lucky
Maggie did all she knew to do when she found herself, barely more than a kitten, on her own. It was frightening and lonely at first, but when hanging around the empty family home and crying at the door only left her more alone and very hungry she went searching for another human to trust. She found food and kindness of a sort.
Ozzie
Ozzie was a very sick lost old cat when he found shelter on a porch. He was emaciated down to skin and bones. His long fur was matted all over his body. It was so tight between his legs that walking was painful for poor Ozzie. Who knows how far the poor old boy struggled to walk until he gave up and huddled on that porch.

Kitten Mill Investigations/Breeding Regulations
Animal Advocates Society of B.C. - Position and Proposed Solution to the problem of thousands of abandoned, feral, and euthanized cats.
The municipalities of Coquitlam, Delta, Maple Ridge, North Vancouver City, North Vancouver District, and Surrey have enacted cat control bylaws that could be used to "round-up-and-kill" thousands of stray cats and feral cats because of a section that can force everyone trying to help a stray cat or all the feral cat rescuers to give the cat over to the local pound - where almost all of them will be killed.

Cat Shelters in the Homes of Rescuers
Animal Advocates has assisted with cat rescue by paying the expenses of cat shelters located in the homes of rescuers. These rescuers do all the heavy lifting but don't have enough money to pay the considerable expenses and no time to do fundraising.
