In Response To: Dr. Lawson's Article in the Maple Ridge Times (Gail)

I'm sure Dr. Lawson must be aware that the public – at least the donating public – sees animals as sentient beings and wants them to be treated with love and compassion. It seems wrong to me too that the SPCA's head vet should publicly refer to animals as "a product" and say that if shelters are bulging with animals and animals are in poor condition because of shelter conditions, animals will be euthanized. As a representative of the SPCA he should at the very least take responsibility for the poor conditions rather than righteously suggest that eliminating the victims is the answer. It's ludicrous. For the most part Dr. Lawson says all the right things as a representative of a Society that boasts of 100 years of compassion. But I feel his true values show in slips like these. I have yet to see or hear anything from or about Dr. Lawson that could persuade me to surrender my own beloved animals to his care. My animals have me to look out for them; how sad that there are so many trusting little pets who no longer have anyone to keep them away from people like this who see animals as "product". God help them.
