Union at SPCA's

Everyone wants job security, but a union does not always provide that either. Just look at BC today: the unions have had little effect on the Liberals, and the cuts happen anyway. It is a fact of life for all of us, Union or not. I do feel that if the SPCA decides to keep the Union, there should be something written in the contract to protect the animals from employees who don't really care about anything more than their paycheques. You could argue that these type of people exist in all jobs, but I do think that given the nature of this work, it should be treated differently than working at a sawmill or something. Perhaps there is something already in the SPCA Union contract like this? I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who knows. If there is not, perhaps this type of animal protection clause would satisfy both sides. The workers would have some security, but the animals would be protected too. Just a thought.
