In Response To: Vernon Morningstar: June 2004: Bunnies abound neighbourhood (Katy Vella Pace)

The Vernon SPCA told the rabbit rescuers that they could have some of its many unused cages, for a donation.

The BC SPCA says it believes in forming community partnerships, and in fact it does cooperate in some ways with a select group of alternative animal welfare organizations, as long as they don't publicly voice the concerns that some of these groups privately have about the SPCA.

The case of the BC SPCA striking Boxer Rescue off its "approved" list after Boxer Rescue made some criticisms of the SPCA, is a case in point.

Partnering with cat rescue groups for spay/neuter is being done, but again, there are valid concerns that the SPCA's demands, that poor people prove they are poor and still have to come up with amounts of money that are not within their means, are somewhat counter-productive to the goal that is named in the P.R. the SPCA sends out.
