Winston the cat spent a whole week hiding under a cat tree at Vernon SPCA. Staff told the person who bought him that they had not seen him eat, drink, or use the litterbox, or even move from his hiding place in the week that he was there. The person who bought Winston had to ask staff to apply Advantage flea treatment to him before he left the premises, as Winston's new owner discovered while staff completed the paperwork that he was infested with fleas. Winston was also severely matted and dirty. But worst of all were his claws. Being polydactyl (extra toes), and neglected, he suffered from claws that were overgrown and embedded into the pads of his feet that bled and oozed pus when the nails were clipped and removed from them. It was obvious that no one had examined Winston at Vernon SPCA.
