There is a gorgeous dog that lives beside us. He has gone crazy from loneliness and has dug half of the back yard in a series of deep ditches. He is left outside 365 days a year to be rained on, snowed on an we often see him wake up covered in frost. It is very cold now and I cannot stand one more winter with him outside. I don't know how his owners sleep at night. He used to go with the female owner to her job sites up north for protection but she has since quit her job and he has absolutely no contact, the other night it was so cold he cried all night. The dog has 2 shabby walls and a roof that are pushed into one of the "ditches" he has created, there is no back on it at all. Last winter there was no shelter at all. I have no idea where to go with this, someone that we know well even talked about stealing him, she is a dog lover and cannot stand to see the dog this way. He had such a gorgeous face when he was a pup but I think he is psychologically damaged now and the trench digging is proof. Please tell me what to do, the SPCA says that as long as there is shelter, there is nothing they can do. I am at a loss.
Thank-you
