Dismissing the viewpoint of the author above as simply uneducated is dangerous and foolhardy in my opinion.
Many, many well educated people hold the same viewpoint and simply dismissing it will not change the strength of the wave of intolerance that is threatening our dogs.
Personally, I feel it is time to make a solid plan in the dog world to protect the dogs we love by pressing for breeding controls.
I do not mean wishy-washy spay/neuter programs. I mean a set of provincial controls that would make it next to impossible to be a backyard breeder.
Litter licensing with a reasonable charge being set for the selling of puppies and each puppy being registered with a life-time number that travels with the dog throughout its life is necessary.
Strengthening the laws to protect dogs are also necessary. Food, water and shelter are simply not enough and it is time chaining of dogs and backyard dogs were simply banned and enforcement of reasonable standards that include the RSPCA's 5 Freedoms took their place.
